Default AotL MM

Soul Reaping - 9 + 1
Death Magic - 12 + 1 + 3
Blood Magic - 9 + 1

1. Aura of the Lich
2. Animate Vampiric Horror
3. Animate Bone Horror
4. Blood of the Master
5. Dark Bond
6. Taste of Pain
7. Signet of Lost Souls
8. Resurrection Signet

This is a build i've been playing with (untested, as my necro isn't lvl 20). The idea is that the build is fairly self sufficient, you can keep yourself alive easy even with dual MMs running around and your Monk doesn't have the burden of your sacrificing to contend with.

A major counter is degen, half the health = degen kills twice as fast. I'm not sure if Bond + ToP are a bit overkill, I mean SoLS doubles as e-management but i'm thinking maybe Deathly Swarm instead of ToP as a bit of extra DPS. That should help starting off your army, because before you have a couple minions you aren't too useful.

I dunno, its an idea. Critiques are welcome, as i'd like to see if its a viable build for a human (read: not a hero) to run. I love minion bombing but don't see micro managing that much as being a fun alternative.

is pretty easy to counter degen if you go /D and get Mystic Regen. with dark bond/Aotl/Mystic Regen... that would be +9 regen.

Yea, maybe drop ToP for that in heavy degen areas, and cast it as needed.

See:

The basic concept of this build is the best I have ever seen for an MM, and can be easily tailored to suit a specific need. AotL can be dropped for Flesh Golem or whatever DM elite.

*Sigh*

Some people like using Flesh Golems. I am not one of them, I prefer AoTL as elite. However my point was that whatever DM elite you are using as a MM, you're better off with the N/D than then N/Mo combination.

Why would anyone use Flesh Golem...It's not worth it's energy cost, and why does it have a long recharge considering you can only have one anyway...Jagged Bones is much better, even with a 15 second recharge.

I like Aura of the Lich a lot, and your build looks similar to mine. I have now taken giving AotL to Olias, as an MM, which came in particularly useful when I did Vizunah Hard Mode over the weekend. We had 2 Olias MMs both with AotL so they could spam Blood of the Master with considerably less health loss.

Aura of the Lich > Flesh Golem.

When I decide to minion master, I normally bring AotL.

Flesh Golem is very nice when:

(1) Your party is lacking in offense; or
(2) You are playing in very cramped quarters, and the Golem can do a good bit of body blocking.

AotL is simply too good for me to pass up, allowing me to keep 10 minions alive indefinitely, with little to no strain on my health or energy.

Default eh...

When I play MM, i much prefer actually doing damage+tanking- and I too don't care much for Flesh Golem. Aura of the Lich isn't that impressive to me either. I much prefer Order of Undeath. Here is the build I like to run:

Death Magic: 12+1+3
Soul Reaping:9+3
Healing Prayers: 9

[skill]Animate Vampiric Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Order of Undeath[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Karei's Healing Circle[/skill][skill]Verata's Sacrifice[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill]

Between Karei's Healing Circle and 4-5 Vampric Horrors, your life isn't much of a problem at all. I've taken this build through all 3 chapters, and it's working out amazing for me.

AotL is not less good than Flesh IMHO.
Both have advantages. AotL is best if you solo or cant' count on a monk, but else... I don't see any advantage, especially in a MM build (and I used it quite often in ABs.). With dark bond and infuse conditions you're already quite invincible, and Mystic regen is sufficient to counter the sacrifice cost.
I would bring AotL only if I have no monk or lack corpses so I need to constantly heal the few I'm owning.
Yes AotL makes you quite resilient to any form of damage, but... Is that really that you want? Tanking is not the solution. I prefer to use AotL with some Dark Aura build.

Flesh golem is terrible because of the recharge. Once it dies then it's a useless skill bar

With AotL you can spam BotM all day long without even worrying about your life. With the other spells you'll need to be a bit careful since you'll get targetted more often if you're nearly dead

When I have done ab as Aotl I bring infuse conditions + death nova as an enchantment/anti dgen. I know its kinda off topic but I found a good pve use, for non mm by adding sacrifice skills (Dark Aura, Barbed Signet, Dark Pact, Demonic Flesh, Wallow's Bite) and mystic regen to reduce dmg taken and spread out dmg.
